Tintoreras Islet is named after the Tintoreras sharks (white-tip reef sharks) that rest in the calm lava channels formed by ancient volcanic activity—one of the best places in the islands to see these sharks up close. The tour begins at Puerto Villamil on Isabela Island, where you’ll kayak across tranquil waters toward the islet. Upon arrival, you’ll explore natural lava canals, the sharks’ preferred resting area, often allowing visitors to observe multiple sharks gathered together. On land, the volcanic formations are home to marine iguanas, seabirds, and endemic bird species, making this tour a perfect blend of wildlife viewing and scenic exploration. For about an hour you’ll swim in clear waters along with sea lions, turtles, rays, and a huge variety of colorful fish.
